How does Osteoboost work?

Osteoboost is a comfortable, wearable Class II medical device that delivers a precise dose of mechanical stimulation to areas at highest risk of fracture—the lumbar spine and hips. Osteoboost is worn for 30 minutes per day while doing activities that involve standing or walking. It is clinically-proven to reduce the loss of bone density and bone strength in the spine by over 80%.

Is Osteoboost FDA-cleared?

Is there clinical evidence that Osteoboost works?

Yes! In our pivotal clinical trial, Osteoboost demonstrated an 83% reduction in loss of bone strength in the spine, 85% reduction in loss of bone density in the spine, and 55% reduction in loss of bone density in the hip. These results were for women who used the device at least 3 days per week on average, and Osteoboost provided greater benefit with more frequent use. We recommend that Osteoboost be used daily.

Is Osteoboost covered by insurance?

At this time, Osteoboost is self-pay. Although Osteoboost is newly FDA-cleared, it is not yet covered by insurance or Medicare, and their review process can take several years. Our team is actively working toward coverage. In the meantime, Osteoboost is eligible for reimbursement under HSA/FSA accounts with proof of prescription.

What makes Osteoboost different from other vibration devices or whole body vibration platforms?

Whole body vibration (WBV) platforms require the user to stand on a vibrating platform, delivering vibration to the bottom of the feet. Research has shown that vibration magnitude dissipates as you move away from the vibration source. Osteoboost was designed to provide vibration targeted directly to the bones in the hips and spine, due to the severe consequences often associated with fractures in those areas. The patented calibration and pressure sensing features ensure that optimal vibration energy is delivered to the hips and lumbar spine. Most importantly, Osteoboost is the only device that has been cleared by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment for osteopenia.

Can I purchase Osteoboost outside of the United States?

Unfortunately, Osteoboost is currently only available through a prescription from a healthcare provider within the United States and a shipping address in the US. 

We are working to bring Osteoboost to select international countries in the coming years, but this depends on local regulations. ​

Is there an app for Osteoboost?

Yes. The Osteoboost app is designed to help you get started with your device and track your progress. It records your treatment sessions, tracks your steps and calcium intake, and provides helpful tips and support. While the app is not required to use the device, we recommend it for the best experience.

Can I use Osteoboost if I have osteoporosis?

​​Osteoboost was studied in and is therefore indicated for use by postmenopausal women with osteopenia. If you’re curious whether Osteoboost is right for you, we suggest talking with your doctor. Does Osteoboost have contraindications?

Osteoboost has no contraindications. That being said, if you have any questions about whether Osteoboost is right for you, we suggest discussing these questions with your healthcare provider.

Can males use Osteoboost?

Osteoboost has not been studied in men, and it is currently indicated for use by postmenopausal women with osteopenia. Please discuss with your doctor if Osteoboost is right for you. We hope to begin a clinical trial for men in the near future, so please fill out this form to be notified.

Can I use Osteoboost if I have had a spinal fusion?

Osteoboost has not been evaluated in people with a prior spinal fusion. Osteoboost may be appropriate if there has been enough time for the bones to heal since the fusion procedure. Please discuss with your doctor to see if Osteoboost is right for you.

Can I use Osteoboost if I have had a retinal tear?

Osteoboost treatment is designed to stay well below the ISO safety guidelines for daily vibration. We have not had any reported retina issues in our clinical studies, but we also suggest discussing any concerns with your doctor.

Why is a prescription required?

Osteoboost is an FDA-cleared medical treatment for osteopenia that requires a prescription. It should only be used per your doctor’s instructions.

Do I need a prescription before ordering Osteoboost?

You can place your order for Osteoboost before having your prescription in hand. Ordering now reserves your device, but be sure to submit your prescription as soon as possible—your Osteoboost can’t ship without it. If you're unable to get a prescription, we’ll provide a full refund—no questions asked.

What if I don’t have a doctor? What if my doctor is not familiar with Osteoboost?

If you don’t see a doctor regularly—or if your doctor isn’t familiar with Osteoboost—we’ve partnered with Beluga Health to offer a convenient telehealth option. Who can prescribe Osteoboost?

Anyone with the ability to prescribe in the United States can prescribe Osteoboost. This includes your general practitioner, OB-GYN, rheumatologist, endocrinologist, internist, or other licensed healthcare providers such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

What if my prescription hasn’t been received yet?

If you believe your doctor has already faxed, called, or e-prescribed Osteoboost, please note that it can take a few days for new prescriptions to be processed. For mailed prescriptions, it may take a bit longer to arrive and be entered into our system.

How much does Osteoboost cost?

Osteoboost is currently available for a special launch price of $995 for self-pay. The MSRP is $1500.

When will my device ship?

We are currently shipping Osteoboost 8-12 weeks after an order is placed. If you have already placed your order, please contact us at support@osteoboost.com for any updates. 

Can I cancel my order? What’s your return policy?

Yes! If you order Osteoboost, you can cancel any time before the device ships for a full refund. We also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee once you have received the device, no questions asked.

What if I ordered the wrong size?

We can change the size of your device up until your device ships. Here are the different sizes:

  • Small: 32 - 40 inches
  • Medium: 40 - 48 inches
  • Large: 48 - 56 inches

To ensure your order is the correct size, measure the circumference of your hips at the widest point. If you are in between sizes, we would suggest going for a smaller size.

Using Osteoboost

Osteoboost is designed to fit into your daily routine. Learn how to wear it, when to use it, and what vibration therapy feels like.
How do I wear Osteoboost?

Osteoboost is like a belt, worn low around your hips. The vibration pack is positioned against your sacrum (a flat bone at the base of the spine and just above the buttocks), and it’s best to wear Osteoboost over a thin layer of clothing. Osteoboost has sensors that ensure it’s on correctly and provides a therapeutic treatment during each and every session. Osteoboost has been designed to provide mechanical stimulation targeted to the bones of the spine and hips through a daily 30-minute treatment session. How often do I need to use it?

We suggest using Osteoboost every day. To learn how to make it part of your routine, check out the Getting Started page.

Is it safe?

Based on the results from our clinical trial, Osteoboost has an excellent safety profile. In the clinical trial, there were no serious adverse events, or adverse effects, related to the device. Also, no participants experienced a hip fracture or vertebral fracture during study participation. You can learn more about using Osteoboost on our Getting Started page.

Can I walk around during treatment?

Yes, you can walk when using Osteoboost. During treatment, you should stay in an upright body position (standing or walking). You can walk, do light household chores, or stand. Movement that may shift the device on your body, such as jogging, high-impact exercise, jumping, excessive bending, sitting, or laying down, should be avoided during the treatment session. Will I feel the vibration? What does it feel like?

Yes! Our clinical trial participants and current Osteoboost users often describe the therapy as feeling like a “gentle massage.” For what to expect during your first session, visit the Getting Started page.

How do I know if Osteoboost is working?

A bone density scan is needed to evaluate changes in bone density, and it typically takes at least a year to be able to see these changes on a scan. We recommend a CT scan or a DXA scan for this. If possible, we recommend that you get a scan before you begin using Osteoboost and then a follow-up scan (on the same machine) 1-2 years later.

Do I need the Osteoboost app to use the device?

The Osteoboost app is strongly recommended, but not required, to use the device. The app helps you get set up, tracks your treatment sessions, reminds you to wear the device, and provides helpful tips and support. You'll get the best experience by using the app alongside your device.
