Laura Bilek

Scientific Advisory Board Member

Laura is a member of the BHT Scientific Advisory Board and is Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and Associate Dean of Research at the College of Allied Health Professions of the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Laura’s research focuses on the effects of exercise and other therapies on preventing bone loss. Laura recently completed an NIH-funded clinical trial that compared bone-loading exercises with risedronate for preventing bone loss in osteopenic postmenopausal women. Laura is also Principal Investigator of Bone Health Technologies’ ongoing pivotal clinical trial.

Tony Keaveny

Scientific Advisory Board Member

Tony is a member of the BHT Scientific Advisory Board and is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering at the University of California, Berkeley, and Director of the Berkeley Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory. Tony has extensive research experience in osteoporosis, with his research focused on using bone imaging to assess treatment effects and fracture risk. Tony is also the Chief Science Officer of O.N. Diagnostics. O.N. Diagnostics has developed VirtuOst, an FDA-cleared diagnostic tool for evaluating bone strength and bone density via CT scans.

Dan Burnett

Founder & CEO

Dan is co-founder and CEO of Bone Health Technologies, and has authored over 270 patents issued and pending worldwide. Dan is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Bioengineering Department at UCSF and serves on the Board of Directors at UCSF Health Hub Connect, which connects early- to mid-stage healthcare startup founders with the people, expertise, and capital they need. Dan earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania, and an MD and MBA from Duke University.

Shane Mangrum, MD

Co-Founder & Scientific Advisory Board Member

Shane has specialty training in the field of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and has been in clinical practice for 15 years, where he has helped treat patients with musculoskeletal issues, pain, and other conditions including osteoporosis. Shane pursued his undergraduate studies at Harvard University, attended the University of Utah School of Medicine, and then received further specialty training at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and the University of Utah. Shane is a founding partner of Theranova, LLC, a medical device development company.

Michael Jaasma


Michael is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Bone Health Technologies. He has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. In his graduate and postdoctoral research, Michael studied the effects of mechanical loading on bone and bone cells, which led to the publication of 10 journal articles. He has over 20 years of experience in medical device research and development, with most of that focused in orthopedics.
